Responsible for account management and sales of refined copper products (primarily copper rod) for assigned customers and territories in North America.  This is a sales position requiring previous experience in direct sales of a manufactured product; ideally in metals, wire industry and/or terminal metals markets.  This is a non-commission role.
  • Create value for Freeport-McMoRan and our customers by managing sales within the assigned territory and account base which is accomplished through effective development and implementation of marketing and sales strategies to promote the Freeport-McMoRan value proposition and customer intimacy models.
  • Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
    • Negotiating and implementing sales agreements and contracts
    • Developing and implementing pricing strategies
    • Building strong multi-level customer relationships that support the overall marketing strategy
    • Coordinating and directing appropriate technical service and support
    • Interfacing with rod operations to assure goals and plans of the Rod business are consistent and achieved
  • Maximize profitability of the Freeport-McMoRan Rod business including: the effective management of premiums, customer dealings, production scheduling and freight considerations
  • Manage customer credit risk and payment terms to ensure prompt payment of invoices
  • Represent Freeport-McMoRan’s interests by participation in industry groups (e.g. ACC, CDA, ICA, etc.) to provide Market Intelligence and Product Development
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering/Science or related field, AND
  • At least five (5) years of sales or customer contact experience of high value, service intensive products with a focus on partnering to create tangible value for the assigned account base
  • Solid contract and negotiation ability
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining key account relationships at all levels of the customer organization
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and make sound business judgment in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures with minimal corporate guidance
  • Seasoned performer with a successful track record in achieving objectives and generating results
  • Solid understanding of  industrial marketing tools and techniques
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing process methodologies
  • Ability to understand and represent technical products, and interact effectively with technical personnel (R&D professionals, Operations and other key decision makers)
  • Must be self-motivated, client service oriented and a problem solver
  • Must demonstrate appropriate analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Must have superior interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills in order to communicate effectively at all levels of the customer’s organization
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure
  • Ability to travel 50% plus

Qualifications

Preferred

  • Metals manufacturing, wire industry, and terminal metals markets experience
  • Demonstrated experience effectively working within an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) model integrating all aspects of the business including sales, customer service, customer credit management, inventory management, demand/pull modeling, forecasting, etc.
  • Practical logistics understanding (rail, truck, warehousing)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Position is in busy, non-smoking office located in downtown Phoenix, AZ
  • Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator and internal staircase
  • Occasionally work may be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds
  • Ability to travel 50% plus
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable State laws

  • Positions which Freeport-McMoRan has designated as safety sensitive positions in the applicable job or position description and which upon further review continue to be designated as safety-sensitive based on an individualized assessment of the actual duties performed by a specifically identified employee.
